Is it safe to bring a camera paintballing?
I have a JVC GR-D250 Compact Series Mini DV Camcorder. It seems pretty durable to me. I’m not going to be paintballing and holding the camera at the same time. I usually ref my friends’ games, and I want to sometimes go right next to them to get a sort-of close up (looks good on camera :)). Is it safe to bring the camera with to film as a ref?

lol when you bring a camera 2 a game (i tried it once) every1 wants to hit it. when i got my camera out of the game it was splattered with all over with paint :(((. so i advise you tell everyone on the other side not to try to hit your camera XD.

Well, aside from people trying to shoot the camera (which is incredibly awful, cameras aren’t cheap; i’d be suing my friends if they did that), you should be fine. However, the closer you get to the players, the more likely you and your camera will get hit, being in the line of fire & all.
Camera itself should be durable enough but the buttons & especially the lens are what you have to be careful with.
I wouldn’t recommend it. You can try to buy a clear protective box or something to insure protection.
There are several professional paintball photographers and videographers out there, such as Sunday Paintball, Katspix, Chrono300/Michael Wise, DerDer, and many many other. So yes, it is safe, as long as you follow the correct precautions prior to entering the field. Most paintball photographers use filters and cover the lens with a bandana. And for crying out loud, keep your mask on and tell your friends not to be idiots and shoot the camera.
